My name is Celena Weaver, and I am married to James (Jim) Weaver. My husband is a retired baseball coach and teaches driver education and H.S. History at Kingston High School. I have two sons—Kurtis a 24-year-old senior at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Colt a 7-year-old second grader who attends Calera Elementary School. I graduated from Durant High School in 1981, and I have attended both SOSU and ECU. I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with early childhood endorsement and a master’s degree in education administration. I have been in education for 20 years. Throughout this time, I have taught 3 year olds, Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, GED classes, and adjunct classes for teacher candidates at SOSU. I am currently teaching 3rd grade at Achille Elementary school.
I don’t have time for hobbies, but I do like to spend time with my sons. I love anything that I can do outside. I don’t like TV. It is just too hard for me to just sit and do nothing, especially when there is so much to do and see.
My goals for this year are to improve the test scores, make my students want to learn from everything they see and do, and promote a love of reading and curiosity in everything. I enjoy teaching because I like to watch my students mature, and I love the looks on their faces when they start to understand something. I chose to be a teacher because my family has been teachers, coaches, and superintendents; plus after I had my first son, I realized how much I love children. I love Achille because of the people; they are honest and committed; they don’t complain; and they do what they say and say what they mean.
